Consciousness is Fundamentally Sexual

If procreation were to cease the human race wouldn’t be around very long – in fact, it would die off after one generation. Is it therefore all that surprising to find that much if not all of our conscious existence has a strong sexual orientation? But exactly what does this mean? Why are we aroused when confronting an attractive member of the opposite sex? Is there a sexual theme deep within the very essence of consciousness? What about my hypothesis in other posts that every image is a mini-orgasm leading with any luck to the real thing and the successful propagation the species? We are either male or female, suggesting that consciousness can be fully explained only from a sexual perspective – an idea fitting quite nicely with an image having a fundamentally sexual quality. (See other posts or either my two recent books for a more complete analysis.)

I propose that when a male is aroused when looking at an attractive female, especially if the situation allows for a more intimate encounter and sharing of their genitals — and given how only the possessor of one’s genitals has a rightful access to them — that this arousal is tantamount to the safe albeit highly symbolic loss of his masculinity, a sublimated castration — in effect becoming a she.  I refer to this phenomenon as the “Law of Privacy.” I envision the effect of this law to be a regression as if, for the male, he has become a female, back to the time when, as an embryo, the man was for all practical purposes a female as was the case before testosterone kicks in and his genitals begin to differentiate from female to male — before the clitoris develops into the penis, or the vulva merge to form the scrotum, etc. In any event, when aroused the prefrontal cortex does its thing and either puts a halt to the sexual aggression or allows it to proceed toward the goal of procreative success.

Society is a living organism that is dependent upon the peaceful coexistence of men and women. And when, in the name of equality, tolerance and political correctness, our leaders stray from our biblical foundations, we risk destroying the biological and neurological significance of the difference between the sexes. When this happens, chaos and violence are inevitable. A more comprehensive picture begins to emerge. Our relation to infinity and the manner in which an image thwarts the Second Law would be all but meaningless apart from the sexual dichotomy of boys and girls, men and women.

To sum, sexuality, intrinsic to the sustaining of the body mass, becomes envisioned as fundamental to consciousness itself. Every conscious moment is bound to the hope of procreative success as driven by the Law of Privacy. Indeed, the connectivity in the brain between our genitalia and all other sensory input to the cerebral cortex suggests that, as water runs down hill, all behavior funnels, sooner or later, into orgasmic relief — as explained in either of my two books as described in the Homepage.

About Glenn Dudley

GLENN DUDLEY became interested in the mind-body problem as a Pre-Med student at the University of Colorado where he emphasized studies in physics, philosophy, and Judeo-Christian theology. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Colorado in 1969. After a mixed Psychiatry/Medicine internship, he worked for two years at MIT's Neurosciences Research Program -- a think tank whose objective was that of understanding how the hard-wiring of the nervous system mediates thought and emotion. Then, he spent a year in the Department of Psychiatry at Tufts Medical School in Boston reviewing the world's literature on psychological and emotional predispositions to cancer. From 1975 to his retirement in 1998 he practiced primary care medicine.
